Silicon Wafer Manufacturing

Project Description

Part of my degree involved learning the physics and materials science behind the semiconductors that run our electronics. I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Sylvain Marsillac in the semiconductor Fabrication lab at Old Dominion University where we created our own silicon wafers from scratch. The process was arduous and often hot in the clean room with the various foundries and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) machines. In the pictures below you see the progress of me and my colleagues producing our own fets, capacitors, and more over the course of a month. In the end we were able to test our devices in with a needle probe microscope to verify our predicted results.
